If you are looking for a book about baseball and steroids, Baseball Great by Tim Green is the right book for you. Have you ever been pressured into something you know you are going to regret in the long run? The main character, Josh, is a very skilled baseball player who can play with any baseball team he wants. He is offered to play for another team; however he wants to stay with his school team because he has so many friends on that team. When he tries out for the other team, he makes the team, however after a little while with this team; he notices something isn’t right; his team was taking steroids. This book was a good book if you would like to know more about how to avoid using steroids or peer pressure.
The lessons I learned and are shown in this book such as what to do when you are pressured into any situation and in this case the usage of steroids. When Josh is pressured into taking steroids, he looked to his father and his father did not help him at all. His father tells him that he should do anything he can to win rather than agreeing with his case and pulling him off the team. Josh made the decision to quit the team and let the coach know. Josh learned how to handle any sort of pressure situation no matter who is putting on the pressure, your teammates on your team, your coach, or even your father. Josh maintains his belief and did not take steroids like his team.
Another theme of this book is revenge. Josh is able to take revenge on his team because he let people know on his school team about the situation with his elite club team. He takes revenge on that team for attempting to pressure him into cheating and taking steroids just to make them a better team and to help “improve” their game overall. Josh took revenge on his elite team by telling people about the steroid scandal, and eventually he quit the team. Tim Green is not saying revenge is always the answer, but you should not have to handle the pressure Josh received from his team, coach and father. Josh was able to overcome that pressure, quit the team and eventually take revenge on them later in the book.
If you enjoy reading books about revenge, sports, baseball, overcoming peer pressure, steroids, or just looking for a good read, Baseball Great by Tim Green is the right book for you.
